How Can You Install Number Plates On Your Vehicle?
It’s time to install your number plates. This process is not difficult; if you follow the steps below, you’ll have everything in place.
Step 1: Clean Your Vehicle
Before you start, ensure your vehicle is clean and ready to install the new plates. The adhesive won’t stick properly if it isn’t clean and dry.
Step 2: Install Registration Plate
Grab your registration plate and double-check that all the information printed on it is correct. Make sure that all numbers are visible while holding it against your car window or bumper where you want to place it—you don’t want any part of a digit or letter to be cover by your vehicle.
Step 3: Fix Plate Into Place
Once you know where you want the plate to go, fix it into place with screws or adhesive pads for number plates (some kits come with these). Don’t use bolts—they can damage leaves over time. If using adhesive pads instead of screws, read any instructions on adhesives carefully because some may need 24 hours before they fully set!
Check The Information On Your New Number Plate.
Now you have your number plate. It is wise to check that the information on it is correct. If there is a mistake somewhere, then you will have to return it and get a new one made. It will have some time for you to get the new number plate, so making sure the one you just received is correct will save you both time and money
There Are Four Things To Check:
- Your name/registration number – make sure there are no spelling mistakes, as this will be hard to fix without getting a new number plate.
- The format – make sure your name/number looks precisely how you want it to look. For example, if you requested 3 letters, 3 numbers, and 3 letters (ABC123ABC), make sure your number plate looks like this!
- Make sure the font matches what was on your order form. This is key since changing it might be difficult, if not impossible.
- The colour – all UK legal plates are white at the front and yellow at the back, but other colours are also available for non-UK use or show plates!
If all of these things match what was on your order form, then your registration plate should be ready to attach!
Installing The Registration Plate
You want to ensure that your number plate is fitted correctly. If it falls off, it could seriously injure someone or cause damage to a vehicle. Plus, you could be hit with a hefty fine and points on your license if caught driving around with an improperly secur number plate!
To attach the registration plate to your vehicle, there are three options: screws, adhesive pads, or rivets. Each is simple to use, and we’ve made some instructions on how best to attach using each method. Just choose which one’s best for you!
Fixing The Registration Plate Into Place
Once your registration plate is in place, it’s time to attach it. Either can do this:
- Screws — With this method, the screws are inserted through the back of the plate and into the car. After they’re tightened, screw covers are added to prevent them from rusting.
- Double-sided tape — This option is a little easier and quicker than screws, but its nature isn’t as secure. It’s also not suitable for front plates unless you have an older vehicle that doesn’t require one!
With both methods, there must be sufficient space between any metal on your vehicle (such as roof racks) and your plate itself so that they don’t touch or rub against each other. Also, make sure there isn’t anything obstructing the visibility of licence plates, such as dirt build-up around them (unless they’re being cleaned!) before setting off to avoid getting into trouble with police officers who might pull over if they can’t read what’s written on registration plates due to these obstructions!
Installing A New Registration Plate Is Simple, And You Can Do It Yourself
Installing a new registration plate is simple, and you can do it yourself. Here are the steps to follow:
- Check that your registration number is valid. It will take up to five days for a new vehicle tax disc or private number plate transfer to show up on DVLA records.
- Place the new registration plate on top of the old one and mark where holes need to be drill with an erasable pen or pencil.
Drill guide holes through the existing holes in the old plate into the bumper if necessary (do not overtighten bolts or screws when fixing plates). Note that you must use black screw caps when fitting replacement plates in Northern Ireland as opposed to other parts of the UK where white screw caps are require unless otherwise specified by your local police force (for example, if you’re living in North Yorkshire or Sussex, you may have been asked or advised by your local police force to display white screw caps). Black screw caps are provided with some suppliers’ replacement plates, but check before ordering so that no additional purchase is require!
