Body contouring, also known as body sculpting, is either a medical or surgical procedure that aims to reshape specific areas of your body. This involves the use of certain aesthetic devices that can do one of the following:
- Eliminate fat in particular areas
- Tighten the skin
- Generally, shape certain areas of the body
Although there are several techniques for body contouring, the most popular treatments are non-surgical due to their simplicity and effectiveness. Here is a list of aesthetic devices used in non-surgical body contouring.
1. Fat-Melting Machines
One of the most common non-invasive fat reduction methods is the fat-melting machine. Fat melting, also sometimes referred to as cavitation, is a non-surgical fat reduction method. It essentially destroys fat cells in your body in a safe, effective, and non-invasive manner, all with the help of low-frequency ultrasound waves.
These aesthetic devices cause fat cell death through the transfer of heat. As a result, the term “melting” refers to using heat to destroy the fat cells rather than an event that occurs to the fat itself. This is done while still keeping the surrounding muscle and skin unharmed, hence the term “non-invasive”.
2. Fat-Freezing Machines
Fat freezing, also known as cryolipolysis, is yet another non-surgical fat reduction method. Unlike fat-melting, however, fat freezing uses cold temperatures to reduce the fat deposits in certain areas of the body. As the name suggests, the area is placed in a clam that is attached to a machine and is cooled, allowing for the fat in that area to become damaged.
Over a few weeks, the body absorbs those damaged cells, consequently reducing the fat. This treatment is intended to remove localised fat deposits or bulges resistant to diet and exercise.
3. Skin Tightening Devices
Much like the fat melting machines, skin tightening devices also involve heat in the procedure. When heat is transferred to the deeper layers of the skin, it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. Collagen is the protein found in your skin cells that allows your skin to be firm, while elastin, which is present in the deep layer of your skin, makes it more flexible.
There are different skin tightening procedures, such as radiofrequency therapy, ultrasound skin tightening, laser treatment, and intense pulsed light.
4. Laser Lipolysis Machines
This aesthetic device uses laser energy to change the shape and appearance of your body. While there are other kinds of lipolysis, laser lipolysis is one of the most common and sought-after procedures.
Unlike its counterpart, surgical liposuction, it isn’t considered major surgery and does not require general anaesthesia. In surgical liposuction, recovery can take months, but laser lipolysis is non-surgical and is much less painful. And so, the recovery time is also much shorter and a lot less complicated. It delivers all these benefits while it also helps in permanently removing fat cells from your body.
Although there are several different procedures to safely reduce fat and shape your body, it is essential to look into every method and see what works best for you.
It is important to remember that aesthetic devices for body contouring don’t assist individuals in losing weight. Instead, they help shape the body and also address specific areas of the body where even significant changes in diet and exercise are futile.
