Season 1986
The Giants had lost the NFC championship game to the Chicago Bears (21-0) the previous season. They were ready to smash the competition this season! The Giants finished the regular season with a 14-2 record, which was their best in franchise history. They thrashed the San Francisco 49ers (49-3) and then hollowed the Washington Redskins in the playoffs (17-0). The Giants almost quadrupled the score of the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXI (39-20). Season 1990
The Giants had another successful season, finishing with a 13-3 record. Everyone questioned how far the Giants would go in the playoffs after losing their primary quarterback, Phil Simms. Quarterback Jeff Hostetler was the one to respond. After adding Joe Montana to their list of quarterback losses, the Giants thrashed the Chicago Bears (31-3) and then edged the San Francisco 49ers (15-13). The Giants edged over the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXV, which was another close contest (20-19).
Season 2007
Despite a difficult start, the Giants persevered and finished the season with a 10-6 record. The Giants defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (24-14), the Dallas Cowboys (21-17) on an endzone interception on the final play of the game, and the Green Bay Packers in overtime (23-20). The Giants met the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, who were seeking to cap a perfect season-literally. Tom Brady and the Patriots have a reputation for winning tight Super Bowl games. However, it was Eli Manning, the Giants’ quarterback, who led his side to victory on the game’s final drive. The Giants won their third Super Bowl trophy, scoring with 39 seconds left on the clock.
